1 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say:
2 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.
3 The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows.
4 The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.
5 Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion.
6 Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up:
7 Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand; nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.
8 Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the Lord be upon you: we bless you in the name of the Lord.
When we study the Book of Job, we sorrow over the losses he sustained. He lost his whole family except for his wife who told him to curse God and die. His friends condemned him. He thought God had done these things to him, including his suffering physically. David, King of the Jews thought himself as one like Job, being put upon continually even from his youth. He longs for the world to seek blessings for him, but sees this not.
"Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth...The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows. Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up. Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the Lord be upon you: we bless you in the name of the Lord." Ps. 129:1,3,6,8.
To be King appears to bring great tribulation! But, amid the tribulation, David the King praises God more than anyone I know. I am trying to catch up with him. For God is worthy of praise, much praise. Praise His holy name!
