174 I have longed for thy salvation, O Lord; and thy law is my delight.

175 Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me.

176 I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.

King David ends his psalm with a plea that God seek him even though he has sinned and gone astray. The king expresses his delight in His law as did Saul of Tarsus, "I delight in the law of God after the inward man." Rom. 7:22. Even though Saul delighted in the law as a good Pharisee, he could not keep His law. "But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members." Rom. 7:23. Unlike Saul (Paul after his conversion), King David had repented of great sins and understood that he must not forget the commands of God. He understood that it is the power of God that keeps one from sin. It is grace allowed into the heart that empowers all who who love the Lord our God with all of the heart to keep His commandments. "He that keepeth His commandments dwelleth in Him, and He in him. And hereby we know that He abideth in us, by the Spirit which He hath given us.""A new heart also will I give you, and a new Spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh." 1 John 3:24, Eze. 36:26. That Spirit is the third Person of the godhead. When He takes possession of the heart, He brings with Him all of the fruits of the Spirit, not one is missing. Love, joy, peace, long-suffering (patience), gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance which is self control. Dear Lord give us this Spirit we pray that we have love, joy, and peace in this world and the next.
